Nimmi Abraham
Practice Manager, Oral Health Therapist/Hygienist – BOH (AUT), BDS (India)
Nimmi Abraham, born to dental specialists from Trivandrum Dental College in Kerala, India, embarked on a diverse career path in dentistry. After graduating from Bharath University, Chennai, she pursued a Bachelor of Oral Health while raising three children. She graduated from AUT in 2022.
Beginning her career in 2009 as a lecturer and general dental practitioner, Nimmi transitioned to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 2011 as a Research Associate, focusing on publishing articles and teaching postgraduate dental students. In 2017, she relocated with her family to Tuakau, New Zealand, where she became a qualified Oral Health Therapist (OHT) and worked in Auckland Regional Dental Service before settling as a hygienist in Tuakau.
Supported by her husband, Dr. Vimal Jacob, Nimmi pursued a master’s in public health at AUT in 2023. Currently serving as practice manager, OHT, and hygienist at Onehunga Dentists, she is dedicated to enhancing patient care and addressing oral health disparities across diverse ethnic groups in New Zealand. Her journey reflects a commitment to both professional advancement and compassionate healthcare advocacy.
Dr. Vimal Jacob
Dentist – NZDREX August 2016, PhD (Czech Republic), BDS (India)
Vimal Jacob graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Chennai, India in 2002 and practiced as a General Dental Practitioner in Kochi, India. In 2005, he pursued a doctorate in Hygiene, Preventive Medicine, and Epidemiology at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. Returning to India, he joined a dental school as a lecturer, focusing on Preventive Dentistry while honing his clinical skills.
In 2011, Vimal moved to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as a Research Associate at King Saud University, where he contributed significantly to dental research, publishing numerous papers. In 2016, he became a registered General Dentist in New Zealand and joined the dental team in Tuakau in 2017. He enjoys the variety of challenges in General Dentistry, including fillings, extractions, root canals, and dentures, leveraging his patience, listening skills, and attention to detail.
Settled in Tuakau with his wife and three children, Vimal appreciates New Zealand for its natural beauty and friendly atmosphere. A passionate cricketer in his youth, he continues to follow the sport closely and enjoys traveling with his family to explore new destinations.
